Best use of salvage items?
I'm trying to decide what I should do with my salvage items.
a.) sell them to merchants.
b.) regular salvage them and sell the mats.
c.) expert salvage them and sell the mats.
I don't need mats for myself, so I'm just doing whatever yields the most money. I imagine that better quality armor might be good for selling (after salvaging the runes) simply because it's worth more, but for the normal ones that I find, is it wiser to salvage them or just to sell them?

Cool... How about weapons with "highly salvageable" mod? I assume non-max weapons without this mod are better to sell (after salvaging any perfect mods from it) but if its highly salvageable should I sell it anyway or try to get some rare mats?

I salvage anything that drops from a level 20 monster...
The stuff from low levels is worthless, but using an expert salvage kit on everything from level 20's in decent areas is worth it most of the time. The mats you get from it will sell more than the price, and it could be almost double if you get rare mats from it.
Highly salvagables are even better. I had a purple item that had a highly salv inscription, and i got 98 bones from it :P.
Theyre worth it.

I ID all items I get. Anything that has "Highly Salvageable" is salvaged, but I think that's not what you mean. Any Salvage items that are blue or higher are checked for important runes/insignias. I usually take them all to a Rune Trader to check on which ones are good or not.
If the rune/insignia is worth ~100-200 more than the item, I salvage out the item(s), hope it doesn't break, sell the runes/insignias, and sell the item if I still have it.

Hm, does salvaging white items with expert salvage kit result in more materials than salvaging it with regular salvage kit?

Dont think so. Just gives you the chance of salvaging rare mats.

Depends on the item.
Cloth, bone, and wood-bearing items get ID-ed and sold to the merchant.
Iron, dust, and hide items get salvaged (often expert-salvaged for a chance at steel and such).
